Happy November, Winnipeg!
With fall hanging on for dear life and winter waiting to pounce, it’s that all-too-familiar time of year where the days are shorter, the air is cooler and our closet is just as confused as we are.
So layer up and take a look at what’s up in WPG this week.

TALK OF THE TOWN
Full house 🏟️
While our hometown Bombers unfortunately won’t be a part of it (more on that in our Sports section), the 112th Grey Cup is officially sold out.
In addition to the game itself, which takes place at Princess Auto Stadium on Nov. 16, the festivities include a halftime performance by MGK and plenty of parties across the city (stay tuned for our top picks in next week’s issue).
“Winnipeg fans have once again shown why our city is the heartbeat of Canadian football,” said Blue Bombers president and CEO Wade Miller in a statement. “The energy, excitement, and support we’ve seen from fans across Canada have made this year’s Grey Cup Festival one of the most anticipated in history. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in Manitoba and showcase the passion that defines this community.”
Mad Man in Manitoba 🚬
Yet another celeb sighting took place in Winnipeg over the weekend, as actor Jon Hamm was spotted taking in a Jets game. Best known for his leading role as Mad Men’s Don Draper (though there’s a case to be made for his epic Skip the Dishes commercials), he’s in town filming a drama series called American Hostage.
Transit transition: better late than never? 🚌
Based on feedback from local bus riders, City Council announced it’s considering a(nother) plan to extend Winnipeg Transit service later into the night. This after council already approved later service, expanded boundaries and more trips to take effect on Dec. 14.
The new changes would affect 11 routes and take effect in April 2026. Get all the details here.

FOOD & DRINK
Bring on brunch 🍴
Although they’ve been open for a while now (and we sadly haven’t had a chance to visit yet), we keep getting rave reviews for Soho Kitchen + Wine.
Located in Chosabi’s former space at A-100 King St., they serve up European-style breakfasts and Italian lunch classics (not to mention coffee, cocktails and desserts) from 9 am to 3 pm.

LOCAL BUSINESS
Closing time 💔
In the latest example(s) of big business having — and using — the upperhand over the little guys, two local businesses recently announced their mall locations will shut down at year’s end: Love Local MB in St. Vital Centre and HayMad & Co. in Kildonan Place. According to both companies, the closures were not their decision.
If we can’t stand up to the corporate powers that be, let’s at least show these businesses a bit of love before they close their doors.
You asked, we listened ☕
Based on a ton of customer requests, yours truly have made the decision to open our coffee bar + clothing store on Sundays. DRIP by We Heart Winnipeg is now open 8-3 Tuesdays through Fridays, 9-4 Saturdays and 10-4 Sundays (still closed Mondays).
Swing by, say hi and warm up with some hot espresso (our maple hazelnut latte is to die for).

SPORTS
Captain’s comeback spoiled 🏒
After sitting out the team’s first 12 games of the season with an injury, Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry returned to the lineup Tuesday night. Unfortunately he couldn’t help the team find a goal in a 3-0 loss to the Kings, but did lead the team with four hits.
Bombers fumble semifinal 🏈
After barely scraping their way into the playoffs, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ fell 42-33 to the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday. In addition to ending the team’s season, the loss stopped their streak at five consecutive Grey Cup appearances.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT 👀
Blast from the past 🏒 The Palomino Club on Main Street is now home to a massive, four-story mural celebrating the Winnipeg Victorias. The Victorias are the city’s OG hockey team and three-time Stanley Cup champions (1896, 1901 and 1902).
While the photo below is pretty good, it truly has to be seen in person.
